As others have noted, when we received this car, we all, not just my 5 yo, had a lot of fun playing with it. The phrases are fun and varied, it was very easy to use, and there were plenty of options to program in to try an maneuver it around chairs. Indeed, it even worked on the carpets.
However, as my son usually prefers to interact and push things around rather than just watch them, at one point he manually pushed the car a short distance. Now, only the phrases will work, it just clicks as though the gears are stripped.
So, a great toy, buy it if you wish, but be aware of this possible issue.

My son got this car for his 5th birthday and has to fight off his brothers (ages 2 1/2 and 7 1/2) to play with it. They all love it! It's not too loud and is easy for them to use. It comes with a programmed demo that they can watch to learn how to use the commands. My youngest son is a little rough with it but it's held up very well so far. It was a little pricey (almost $[...]) but they're all enjoying it so it's worth it. I'd highly recommend this fun car for boys and girls of any age!

Love the toy, but broke with in 2 days Jun 22, 2006

We bought this toy for my son's third birthday and he loves it! However, after two days the rear wheels do not operate properly. They only spin a little making the car stop within inches of where he started. My son hasn't stopped crying since this morning. With this sticker price, I expected it to last a little longer. Mattel is sending us a voucher to purchase a replacement.

To be honest we really didn't have high hopes for this toy when we initially purchased it for our nephew as a birthday gift. He's 2 Y.O. and at the time it was hard to tell what he'd like most. We decided to go with this, and it was one of the presents he opened up half way through the rest. We were so surprised with how much he loved it! Every other present after, he just completely ignored and went back to this car. He loves being able to push it around and the sounds are great. They can be a little bit loud but that's fine. 4 months later and this is still his favorite car! This is a great toy and I recommend it to anyone with small children.

So if you are having trouble finding the new lightning mcqueen fast talking car. Which by the way is wonderful. I was going to get it here on Amazon because I am a loyal shopper and was about to drop the 80 dollars they want for it. Thank God I shopped around. Toys r us has it for 29.99. Thought I'd let you all in on it. They may be running out so if your little one wants it go ahead and buy it here.
As for the product, it was alot smaller than I thought it would be but still good and its just so cute! I bought if for my son who is turning four. His whole bedroom is Cars and his birthday theme is that as well so I know he is going to love it.
